Telematics Privacy Statement
Last Revised: August 1, 2026
United Farm Family Mutual Insurance Company ("Insurer") and Cambridge Mobile Telematics, Inc. (“CMT”) respect the privacy of the data collected from users ("you") and the motor vehicles you drive in connection with the DriveTrend® Program available through the Insurer's mobile application ("Telematics App"), its consumer-facing dashboard and in-app features (“Dashboard”), and websites (collectively, the "DriveTrend Program"). For purposes of this privacy statement, the DriveTrend Program may also be referred to as the “Telematics Program.” This privacy statement describes how Insurer and CMT (collectively, "we," "us," or "our") will use, disclose, and safeguard the data collected when you access and use the DriveTrend Program.
This privacy statement supplements and incorporates by reference the Cambridge Mobile Telematics Privacy Policy available at www.cmtelematics.com/privacy-policy/ and the Insurer Privacy Policy available for Indiana customers at https://www.infb.com/company/privacy-center/online-privacy-policy, and at https://www.eaststreetins.com/company/online-privacy-policy for customers in all other states. This privacy statement is not intended to limit any data usage provisions that you agree to with the Insurer.
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING HOUSEHOLD DATA SHARING
The DriveTrend Program includes a household data sharing feature,
accessible through the Family Group section of the Dashboard, that allows
members of your insurance household to view detailed information about each
other's driving activity.
What This Means for Your Privacy
If you participate in the DriveTrend Program, other drivers in your household who are also enrolled will be able to see detailed information about your driving for the most recent 14 calendar days, including:
- Your individual trip routes and locations, displayed as map views showing where you drove, including start and end locations.
- Trip details, such as date, time, and distance of each trip.
- Whether you were the driver or passenger on each trip.
- Specific driving events, such as instances of hard braking, speeding, rapid acceleration, or mobile device distractions on each trip.
- Your driving scores, performance metrics, and other comparative data that allows household members to compare their driving behaviors against yours.
You will also be able to view the same information about other enrolled household members.
Who Is in Your "Household"?
"Household" is determined by the Insurer based on the drivers
listed on one or more of your vehicle insurance policies and how those policies
or drivers are grouped in the Insurer’s system. This typically includes family
members and other individuals insured under the same policy or related
policies. You do not control who is included in your household for purposes
of this feature.
You Cannot Opt-Out of Household Data Sharing While Remaining
Enrolled
Household data sharing is a core feature of the DriveTrend Program and
cannot be disabled or limited. If you are not comfortable sharing
detailed driving information, including your travel routes, locations visited,
and driving behaviors, with other members of your household, do not accept the
DriveTrend Terms & Conditions, download the Telematics App, or otherwise
participate in the DriveTrend Program.
If You Change Your Mind
You may terminate your participation in the DriveTrend Program at any time and for any reason by uninstalling the Telematics App. This will prevent additional data collection and sharing; however, previously collected data will not be automatically deleted and will be retained as described in Section 5 (Data Retention) of this Privacy Statement. If you are the Rated Driver and terminate participation, the Participation Discount may be removed from your insurance policy upon renewal.
Consent Requirements
- If you are age 18 or older: You must independently consent to these Terms and household data sharing by downloading the Telematics App and completing registration.
- If you are enrolling a minor (under age 18): By enrolling a minor, you represent that you are the minor’s parent or legal guardian with authority to consent on the minor’s behalf, and you consent to the collection, use, and household data sharing of the minor's driving data.
For more complete details about household data sharing, please review Section 3 (Disclosure of Your Telematics Data) of this Privacy Statement and Section 2 (About the DriveTrend Program) of the DriveTrend Program Terms & Conditions.
Updates to This Privacy Statement
From time to time, we may update this privacy statement, at our sole discretion. We will update the "Last Revised" date of this privacy statement when we make changes. When practicable, we will provide advance notice of changes that significantly affect how we collect, use, or disclose your Telematics Data via email, through the Telematics App, or by other reasonable means. However, some changes may be effective immediately upon posting.
Notwithstanding the above, changes may be implemented immediately without advance notice when necessary to address security vulnerabilities, comply with legal requirements, or prevent fraud or harm. In such cases, we will provide notice as soon as reasonably practicable.
Your continued participation in the DriveTrend Program after changes are posted or after receiving notice constitutes your acceptance of the revised privacy statement.
1.
Data
Collected
Insurer may collect data about you, the motor vehicles you drive, and any named or rated driver on your insurance policy (collectively referred to as "Your Telematics Data") in a variety of ways. This privacy statement does not apply to the third-party mobile application online stores from which you download the Telematics App; such app stores may also collect and use information about you. Specifically, the Telematics App is downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play and may be subject to such app stores’ privacy policies and terms of use.
The data collected depends on your use of the DriveTrend Program.
Information Collected from the Insurer
If you are a customer of the Insurer, CMT may collect from the Insurer information about the policyholder and/or individual participating in the DriveTrend Program, the covered vehicle and the named driver, such as:
· Contact details and other demographic information that you voluntarily provide to us. For example, when you download the Telematics App, you will be prompted to provide certain personal information, including but not limited to your name, email address, and mobile phone number as part of the registration process. We also collect the contact information you voluntarily give to us when you participate in various activities related to the DriveTrend Program.
· Motor vehicle data, including Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), make, model, and model year.
· Insurance driver information (e.g. your driver's license number, birthdate) and insurance policy information, such as the policy number, policy type, and policy relationship (e.g. primary named insured, listed driver).
Information Collected Directly From You
If you register for an account using the DriveTrend mobile application offered through the Insurer, CMT collects directly from you:
· Contact details, including name, email address and mobile phone number.
· Profile picture (if provided).
· Your express written consent to receive text messages.
Information Collected From the Telematics App
The Telematics App collects data about how the covered vehicle is being operated, including:
· Trip information, such as trip start and end date and time, distance traveled, speed, acceleration, deceleration, and braking data, road surface information, and mobile device usage during a trip, such as whether the hands-free feature was used or text messages were sent during a trip.
· Dashboard usage data, including details of your visits to the Dashboard, the resources you access, and any data you download. This information may also be tracked and analyzed for data analytics purposes to help understand how users interact with the Dashboard.
· Continuous background location tracking. The Telematics App collects precise GPS location data continuously, 24/7, including when the app is running in the background, when your device screen is locked, and when you are not actively using the app. You must enable "Always Allow" or "Allow all the time" location permissions for the app to function. This may reveal your home and work addresses, places you visit, daily travel patterns, and sensitive locations such as medical facilities, legal offices, and places of worship. The types of location data we collect include your latitude, longitude, time of travel, route information, and compass-related data. CMT uses various technologies to determine location, including GPS, IP address, Wi-Fi access points, cell towers, and other sensors.
· Motion and fitness activity. The Telematics App requires access to your device's motion and fitness activity ("Motion & Fitness Activity" on Apple; "Physical Activity" on Android) to detect and track trips. You must enable this permission during app setup for the app to function properly.
· Device and technical data, including data that CMT servers automatically collect when you access the Telematics App or the Dashboard, such as your IP address, device ID and type, your browser type and language preference, the operating system used by your device, mobile carrier, access times, and your mobile device's geographic location while the Telematics App is actively running.
· Device identifiers and tracking technologies, including information collected via mobile device IDs and other similar tracking technologies to recognize you.
All of the above information is collectively referred to herein as “your Telematics Data".
2.
Use of
Your Telematics Data
Your Telematics Data will be used to provide and support the DriveTrend Program. The Insurer will use your Telematics Data for purposes of insurance administration, including for policy quotes, approvals, renewals, analysis and fraud or crime prevention.
Current vs. Future Insurance Use
Currently, your driving score affects only your eligibility for a Participation Discount and does not affect your insurance premium rates or policy terms. However, we reserve the right to use your Telematics Data and driving score for insurance underwriting, pricing, and risk assessment purposes in the future, upon policy renewal with advance notice as required by applicable law.
Important Clarification Regarding Insurance Claims
Your Telematics Data will not be used by the Insurer to adjust or deny any first-party claims you may file under your insurance policy. First-party claims are claims for your own losses or injuries covered under your policy. However, we reserve the right to use your Telematics Data to investigate and adjudicate third-party claims made against you (claims by others for damages you allegedly caused), as well as to assist in legal proceedings, fraud investigations, and crime prevention activities.
Automated Driver Detection and Trip Correction
The Telematics App uses automated algorithms to determine whether you are the driver or a passenger for each trip. These determinations may not always be accurate. You must review and correct any misclassified trips within 14 calendar days, or they will be permanently deemed accurate and included in your driving score. Failure to correct trips may result in other people's driving being attributed to your record.
CMT’s Use of Your Data
CMT will use your Telematics Data to evaluate, customize and improve the DriveTrend Program; notify you about changes or updates; and respond to your requests, inquiries and concerns. We may also use your Telematics Data for statistical and research analysis; to improve or develop other products, services and benefits; to comply with legal obligations, assist law enforcement, respond to subpoenas, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements; and in other ways to which you have expressly consented.
The DriveTrend Program may use Google Analytics to analyze usage.
Google Analytics uses a set of cookies to collect information and report usage
statistics without personally identifying individual users to Google. More
information on Google Analytics is available at: “How Google uses data when you
use our partners' sites or apps” located at www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/.
Location Services
The DriveTrend Program uses location information. For the Telematics App to function properly, you must activate the location setting on your mobile device. We use the location data from your mobile device to tailor the Telematics Application to your current location.
3.
Disclosure
of Your Telematics Data
In order to provide technology, customer service, research, marketing, communications and other support for the DriveTrend Program, we may share your Telematics Data as follows:
· We may share your Telematics Data with third parties that perform services for us or on our behalf, including geolocation and mapping application programming interface services (such as Google Maps, Apple Maps, or other similar geolocation service providers), telecommunication companies, wireless service providers, and email delivery vendors.
· As described in the Important Notice Regarding Household Data Sharing above, detailed information about your driving activity—including individual trip routes, locations visited, driving events, scores, and performance metrics—will be visible to all household members enrolled in the DriveTrend Program through the Family Group feature. For drivers under the age of 18, this information may also be disclosed to their parents or legal guardians, including those who are not enrolled in the DriveTrend Program. See the Important Notice Regarding Household Data Sharing section of this Privacy Statement for complete details.
· If either CMT or the Insurer believes the release of your Telematics Data is reasonably necessary to: (i) respond to legal process, a subpoena or a similar request for information, a court order, or other legal obligation; (ii) defend against legal claims; (iii) cooperate with a request from law enforcement or other governmental agency in connection with efforts to investigate, prevent, or take other action regarding illegal activity, suspected fraud, or other wrongdoing; (iv) protect and defend the rights, property, or safety of CMT, the Insurer, our users, our employees, or others; or (v) detect, investigate, and help prevent data security threats or other malicious activity, then your Telematics Data may be shared to the full extent permitted by law.
· If CMT, the Insurer, the Telematics Program or a related asset or line of business is acquired by, transferred to or merged with another entity, then your Telematics Data may be transferred to the successor entity.
· CMT and Insurer may share your Telematics Data with third parties for purposes other than as described in this privacy statement with your consent.
4.
Data
Security
CMT and Insurer use a variety of administrative, physical and technical security measures, including data compression and encryption technologies, intended to safeguard your Telematics Data. Please be aware, however, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse. As a result, we cannot guarantee the security of your Telematics Data.
5.
Data Retention
We retain your Telematics Data as long as necessary to provide and support the DriveTrend Program and fulfill the purposes described in this privacy statement.
If you terminate your participation in the DriveTrend Program by uninstalling the Telematics App, your previously collected Telematics Data will not be automatically deleted. We will retain your Telematics Data in accordance with our data retention schedule, applicable law and regulation, and as necessary for:
· Insurance administration and underwriting purposes;
· Legal, regulatory, and compliance obligations;
· Fraud prevention and investigation;
· Claims administration and legal proceedings; and
· Business analytics and research.
Aggregated or anonymized data that cannot be re-identified may be retained beyond our standard data retention period for research, analytics, and business purposes. For more information, please contact us using the information in the Contact section below.
